Hello, I am Sai Som Phone, a fresh graduate from Assumption University in Thailand, who is seeking for opportunities to pursue further studies in Australia.

IELTS General Tips

As we all have different English proficiency level based on our knowledge and skills, finding out our strength and weaknesses among all 4 skills is important. Emphasizing and putting more effort on the weaknesses and maintaining the strength parts will certainly assure you the scores you want. You might as well want to consider about time management on how you balance your time for each individual skill during practice sessions. Also, you may keep track on whether you achieve your target scores by doing mock tests frequently. Of course, the more you practice, the higher score you will get. Due to the facts that more clear voices from recordings on headphone in listening test, an indication of time remaining for reading and writing sessions, capable of accessing to free familiarization test that is similar to real test, faster results after 3-5 days, I personally prefer and recommend taking computer -delivered test rather than paper-based test.

Listening Tips

In my personal experience, I find multiple choice questions and maps difficult, so I focused and practiced more on my weakness parts. The outcome is fascinating as I could see the progress of improvement in attaining higher score. Make sure to read all the instructions before the recording begins, beware of distracters and look out for synonyms.

Reading Tips

Timing and completing it on time are the most important in reading test. Thus, understanding the reading techniques of how skimming and scanning works and apply those techniques well regarding to different question types such as matching headings, True/False/Not given questions and so on.

If you don’t know the answer, just guess, and sometimes use common sense to eliminate wrong answers. Try looking for synonyms because in the reading section, the words will not be the same as in the paragraph.

Writing Tips

It is very helpful to read some essay samples for both task 1 and task 2 from reliable sources such as IELTS Mentor (https://www.ielts-mentor.com/) which is recommended by Teacher Wendy.

Plan your time and structure before you start writing.

Most importantly, get to know what all four criteria are, meeting those requirements will assure to attain higher band score.

Speaking Tips

Try to speak English in a nature way with confidence and feel like a normal conversation with examiner. Develop the answers you have given and make sure you are not going off-topic.

Handling tenses appropriately, use grammar correctly, displaying wide ranges of your vocabulary knowledge would be highly suggested.

Remember it is about testing your English language proficiency skills only, not the contents nor your knowledge. In Listening test, it is probable that we all tend to be anxious and nervous, so try to be calm and relaxed in this situation.
